Personalizing Gifts

Good Morning, One of the first things I did with my embroidery machine was monograms. They can be sew fun and make wonderful gifts, especially for weddings. Personalizing a gift is one the nicest ways to say you care. There are several things you need to remember when doing monograms.

In checking out my facts in several locations it seemed to be that you have a couple of choices of initial order: first, last, middle with the last name initial slightly larger; or first, middle, last with the initials all being the same size.

The only exception would be for a married women who uses her maiden name as well as her married name, then the order is first, married, maiden. For more examples of some of the complicated issues in monogramming, take a look at Embroidery Arts Rules. Readers have given their votes. You will see that pretty much anything goes ~~ if it is creative enough.

Another resource for lettering and frames for your monograms include Anna Bove Embroidery. I have bought several, and they are very reliable, beautiful files.

Do you have a preferred way to monogramming?
